about TENUTE GREGU

Tenute Gregu is the creation of grape-grower and wine-maker- Raffaelle Gregu. Raffaelle’s vineyards are located in the far northeast of Sardinia close to Olbia. The vineyards lie between the Costa Esmerelda on the Tyrhennian Sea and the Limbara Mountains.

The Gregu family has a history and tradition of wine-making dating back a full century to 1920. Originally from Barbagia, the rugged inner mountainous region of Sardinia, Raffaelle transplanted to the Costa Esmerelda in the far north. Barbagia was so named by Cicero whom believed that barbarians came from that region.

Raffaelle grows Vermentino mostly from which he makes white wine, but he also grows Gannonau, from which he makes rosato and rosso wines. The Gannonau varietal is believed to have been brought to Sardinia from Spain, indeed, the varietal is called Garnacha there. The biancos and rosatos pair beautifully with seafood and mild cheeses.

Tenute Gregu wines are made in stainless steel. This method of production emphasizes the freshness of the  fruit, crisp acidity and preserves aromatics. The wines are made to be consumed early.
