ABOUT TERRE DI BALBIA:

Terre di Balbia is an impressive vineyard located in the Cosenza region of Calabria, an inland area between the Ionian and Tyrrhennean Seas. Guiseppe Chiappetta and his partners bought the 8-hectare property in 2014. They retained the old vines Magliocco (Guyot trained) and planted new Magliocco vines (Albarello). All told, Balbia has 5 HAs Magliocco, 2 HAs Gaglioppo, and 1 HA Merlot, planted in limestone. Guiseppe is a successful retired engineer from Cosenza, and no expense has been spared in the meticulously cared for vineyard nor the ultra-modern cantina. Balbia is dry-farmed, it is more humid and not as dry as nearby Ciro, and certified organic. Guiseppe’s purpose is to express his pride in the wine-making and other traditions of his native region of Calabria.
